Introduction The Leadership Internship Program1 annually selects individuals with a record of leadership in Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) (Miller 2013) and the broader field of educational technology for a unique opportunity to further develop leadership skills. The class of interns identifies an organizational need, proposes a project idea, creates and fulfills a plan of action, and presents project outcomes to AECT leaders. This project has been a mandatory component of the internship program for over a decade (Anderle et al. 2018). This paper presents the internship project spearheaded by the class of 2018 interns: Lucas Vasconcelos, Lin Zhong, Miaoting Cheng, and Sean Jackson.
brainstormed ideas for the project. Inspired by AECT’s core value of collaboration, which includes sharing AECT’s vision with other organizations (Association for Educational Communications and Technology n.d.), interns identified a mutual interest in leveraging their multicultural backgrounds and multilingual abilities for international outreach.
Purpose The purpose of the project was four-pronged: (1) collect data about international professional organizations of educational technology, (2) create an online database, (3) identify patterns in the dataset, and (4) propose recommendations to inspire AECT global partnerships.

Interns leveraged their language proficiency to collect data on international organizations over a period of two months. Lucas Vasconcelos surveyed organizations in South and Central America while Miaoting Cheng focused on Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and other parts of Asia. Lin Zhong surveyed Mainland China, Korea, Japan, South Asia, United States, and Europe while Sean Jackson focused on Europe, North America, and Africa (Table 1). Areas in which AECT already has affiliates, such as Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia, were excluded from data collection.
