The book you are about to read is a history book, which concerns a piece of Italian history. It has the merit of telling the reader about how Italy has become one of the world’s major powers in the aerospace sector, by reconstructing the political, economic and social settings in which it was possible for this to take place. The evolution of research in Italy, and particularly that of space research, was inevitably affected by the different political and economic periods that, despite varying trends, were constantly growing, thanks also to strong industrial support. The creation of the Italian Space Agency in 1988 is a sign of a certain maturity that was reached, albeit a little late if we consider the fact that the Italian space sector took its first steps in the early 1960s. However, great many steps forward were made thanks to that choice to equip the country with a space agency.
