This book is the product of a certain kind of life. Mine has been a life of reading, reflecting, researching, teaching and mentoring in my work an academic. It has also been a life as an engaged interlocutor, thinking and rethinking ideas and issues in the light of perspectives and arguments offered by friends, colleagues and many co-authors and authors, who have changed my ways of seeing the world. Then there has been my life as a member of my complicated family. And there is my current life as a partly retired person who continues, as a volunteer, to teach and research and mentor with a wide network of co-researchers in the fields of practice theory and action research.
