Abstract. In order to correct oversights and mistakes made by us while transferring species names to Miconia from other genera of the tribe Miconieae, we propose the following new names and combinations: Miconia durandii, Miconia hermogenesii, Miconia macropetala, Miconia reptans, Miconia retropila, Miconia riedeliana, Miconia trichocalyx, and Miconia verruculosa. We also discuss the nomenclatural status of Clidemia deflexa, Melastoma melanophyllum (Clidemia melanophylla) and Staphidiastrum polystachyum (Sagraea polystachya). Keywords: Clidemia, Conostegia, Leandra, Miconieae, nomenclature, Ossaea, Sagraea, taxonomy.
The last 10 years have seen rapid changes in our understanding of the phylogenetic relationships of Neotropical Melastomataceae. With these advances, there have been resurrections, new descriptions, and re-circumscription of tribes and changes in the limits of several genera (Penneys et al., 2010; Michelangeli et al., 2011; Penneys & Judd, 2013; Bacci et al., 2019; Bochorny et al., 2019; Guimarães et al., 2019). Among these changes, the recent recognition of a single genus in the tribe Miconieae, Miconia Ruiz & Pav., is one of the most substantial modifications to the taxonomy of family (Ionta et al., 2012; Michelangeli et al., 2016, 2019). Initially, many of the name changes were made as part of reviews of specific clades or geographical regions (Ionta et al., 2012; Judd & Ionta, 2013; Gamba & Almeda, 2014; Judd et al., 2014a, 2014b, 2018a, 2018b; Majure et al., 2015a, 2015b). A subsequent comprehensive publication included most of nomenclatural novelties required to place all accepted species of Miconieae into Miconia (Michelangeli et al., 2019). While updating
different databases and preparing the reorganization of herbaria to reflect these changes, we detected some errors and omissions that are addressed here. The specific epithet pittieri was occupied in Miconia, thus the heterotypic synonym Conostegia donnell-smithii was used as the basis for a new combination (Michelangeli et al., 2019). Unfortunately, that specific epithet was also occupied in Miconia and thus the name M. donnell-
