The Australasian Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an annual conference that brings together researchers and practitioners in areas related to artificial intelligence for promoting research and scientific discussions. This volume contains 82 papers presented at the 24th AI conference held in Perth, Western Australia, December 5–8, 2011. The AI 2011 call for papers solicited contributions across a wide range of areas of research in artificial intelligence. This year’s conference received 193 submissions, including papers from authors in Australia, Japan, Malaysia, China, Iran, New Zealand, India, USA, Poland, Canada, Singapore and 19 other countries. The topics addressed by the submitted papers illustrated the broadness of the discipline. The conference featured three distinguished keynote speakers, Witold Pedrycz (Department of
