Autoimmune haemolytic anaemia: case report An 82-year-old man developed autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA) while receiving ampicillin/sulbactam for pneumonia. The man presented with the symptoms of dyspnoea, high fever and general fatigue over 3 days. Based on laboratory parameters and chest CT findings, the diagnosis of pneumonia alongwith heart failure was made. He was admitted and he started receiving antibiotic therapy with ampicillin/sulbactam 6 g/day [route not stated] for pneumonia. Additionally, he was treated with furosemide for acute heart failure. The following day, he developed symptoms of jaundice and his bilirubin levels further elevated. Five days following admission, his inflammatory markers raised and he developed haemolytic anaemia. His haemolytic anaemia associated parameters were as follows: direct antiglobulin test (DAT) positive (3+), DAT anti IgG (3+), DAT anti C3 (4+), indirect antiglobulin test positive, cold agglutination negative, haptoglobin
