Preface

Analog Communications: Problems and Solutions is suitable for third-year undergraduates taking a first course in communications. Although most of the present-day communication systems are digital, they continue to use many basic concepts like Fourier transform, Hilbert transform, modulation, synchronization, signal-to-noise ratio analysis, and so on that have roots in analog communications. The book is richly illustrated with figures and easy to read. Chapter 1 covers some of the basic concepts like the Fourier and Hilbert transforms, Fourier series, and the canonical representation of bandpass signals. Random variables and random processes are covered in Chap. 2. Amplitude modulation (AM), envelope detection, Costas loop, squaring loop, single sideband modulation, vestigial sideband modulation, and quadrature amplitude modul
