The English edition of Artificial Intelligence and Judicial Modernization will be published by Springer Publishing House, Germany. This book is a summary of the theory and practice of Shanghai judicial professionals in pushing forward the reform of the criminal litigation system centering on trials by using modern technology such as AI, solving judicial problems, avoiding the occurrence of cases in which people are unjustly, falsely, or wrongly charged or sentenced, and realizing fairness and justice. In early 2014, China’s judiciary launched a profound reform of the judicial system, aiming at “speeding up the construction of a fair, efficient and authoritative socialist judicial system through deepening the reform of the judicial system, safeguarding the rights and interests of the people, so as to make the public experience fairness and justice in each judicial case.”1 The reform of judicial system is not only a profound revolution but also a great challenge.
