Die Indikation zur PEG-Sonde sollte bei fortgeschrittener Demenz eher selten und immer im Sinne einer Einzelfallentscheidung gestellt werden. Bei Finalstadien der Demenz ist sie kontra­indiziert. Allerdings bleibt zu hoffen, dass sich diese medizinisch und ethisch problematische Fragestellung in Zukunft durch eine frühere Wahrnehmung des Gewichtsverlusts und entsprechend frühzeitige nicht inva­sive Therapiemaßnahmen bei einigen Betroffenen vermeiden lässt.
