Acute pancreatitis: case report An adult man [exact age at onset of reaction not stated] developed acute pancreatitis during treatment with mesalazine , prednisone and azathioprine for Crohn’s disease. The man, was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2011 at the age of 18 years. Afterwards, he was treated with mesalazine, prednisone and azathioprine, due to which he developed acute pancreatitis [routes, dosages and durations of treatments to reaction onset not stated]. Subsequently, he developed splenic abscesses. During current presentation (at the age of 25 years), the man was treated with piperacillin/tazobactam and prednisone and was discharged with tapered dose of prednisone. However, his condition failed to improve and progression of the abscesses was noted. Thus, a splenectomy was recommended. He came to the hospital for a second opinion. Various investigations were performed. Abdominal ultrasound scan and CT showed a splenomegaly with three splenic abscesses. IV prednisone application was initiated with meropenem and metronidazole. However, splenic abscess size remained stable. Later, the treatment was changed to infliximab. After three administrations, he showed symptomatic improvement. Another ultrasound scan revealed a decrease in size of the splenic abscesses [outcome of adverse reaction not stated]. Nitzl V, et al.
