Urinary retention and vesicoureteral reflux: 2 case reports In a retrospective study of 257 children with therapy-resistant non-neurogenic detrusor overactivity conducted between May 2003 and August 2017, 2 patients including a girl and a boy [exact ages not stated] were described, of whom, a girl developed urinary retention and a boy developed vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) during treatment with botulinum-toxin-A for non-neurogenic detrusor overactivity. The patients, who had non-neurogenic detrusor overactivity, received a standard dose of 100 units (U) of intradetrusor (IM) injection of botulinum-toxin-A (BoNT-A) [Botox; route not stated] diluted in 10mL of sodium chloride [saline] and injected at 20 different sites. After the first injection of botulinum-toxin-A, the girl developed temporary post-operative urinary retention, which required temporary clean intermittent catheterisation. Her post-operative urinary retention lasted less than a week. The other patient (the boy) developed temporary postoperative VUR secondary to botulinum-toxin-A injection [not all times to reactions onsets stated]. Ringoir A, et al.
