Cardiac chest pain and diarrhoea: case report A 40-year-old man developed cardiac chest pain during treatment with capecitabine and oxaliplatin. Additionally, he developed diarrhoea during treatment with irinotecan for rectal adenocarcinoma. The man presented with various symptoms for 6 months and was diagnosed with grade 1 rectal adenocarcinoma (cT3N1M0). He started receiving cyclical neoadjuvant chemotherapy with capecitabine and oxaliplatin [CapOx regimen; routes and dosages not stated]. After the first cycle, he developed cardiac toxicity in the form of chest pain. Therefore, the man’s capecitabine therapy was stopped. Thereafter, he received two cycles of oxaliplatin monotherapy with partial response. After that, he started receiving radiochemotherapy with weekly irinotecan 65 mg/mp [route not stated] and radiotherapy. He well tolerated radiochemotherapy with grade 2 digestive toxicity in the form of diarrhoea. Following completion of the treatment, investigations showed a complete response. Six weeks later, he underwent surgery [ADR outomes not stated]. Hopirtean C, et al. Rectal cancer case presentation with cardiac toxicities after fluoropyrimidine treatment.
