Abstract Nowadays, the job market has become more competitive due to the advancement of higher educations. In Bangladesh, an individual selects three types of careers namely Government Job, Private Job, and Business after the completion of their graduation. Selecting a specific career is affected by many factors. These factors can be personal as well as academic. In this research, we have done career predictions and analyze several factors behind this. To accomplish the work, we have analyzed several academic and personal factors. Here, we have applied several data mining techniques for experimentation and several performance evaluation metrics to evaluate our work. Finally, we found that Part classifier outperforms the other techniques. Keywords Prediction · Data mining · Influential factors · Career · Bangladesh

1 Introduction A successful and secure future largely depends on the selection of an appropriate career choice. This selection process can be influenced by some personal factors along with the individual’s academic background, such as inherent talents, technical skills, academic results, research interests, and sometimes mostly on the family background as well as on the family income. Selecting an effective career path sometimes becomes difficult when an individual’s interest conflicts with real circumstances in case of qualification, experience over time, economic stability, family pressure, ongoing career trends, etc. In Bangladesh, due to several factors, most of the graduate students compete for government jobs, as they consider government jobs as the most viable and secure career option through their self-observation or other family member’s experiences. But in reality, everyone cannot get the opportunity to go for a government job. On the other hand, the majority among the rest, who generally belong to welloff families, tend to become self-employed by starting their businesses, whereas, youths with strong technical skills, but less institutional grades, join private jobs at several international companies in the state or abroad for better earning.
