THE o r i g i n and d e v e l o p m e n t of c e l l u l a r s t r u c t u r e s in l a m e l l a r e u t e c t i c a l l o y s h a v e b e e n e x t e n s i v e l y s t u d i e d in t h e p a s t ~- ~1 and it is g e n e r a l l y a c c e p t e d t h a t t h e s e a r e e n t i r e l y a n a l o g o u s with the c e l l u l a r s t r u c t u r e s o b s e r v e d in s i n g l e p h a s e a l l o y s . P a r a l l e l s t u d i e s , h o w e v e r , h a v e not b e e n r e p o r t e d f o r r o d - l i k e e u tectics, although Albright and Kraft have mentioned the f o r m a t i o n of c e l l s in i r o n - i r o n s u l p h i d e e u t e c t i c a l l o y s , with i n c r e a s i n g s o l i d i f i c a t i o n rates.12 T h i s c o m m u n i c a t i o n d e a l s with s o m e a s p e c t s of c e l l f o r m a t i o n in the r o d - l i k e i r o n - i r o n s u l p h i d e e u t e c t i c , to which v a r y i n g q u a n t i t i e s of o x y g e n h a v e b e e n a d d e d (14 to 98 ppm).
