Preface

The word “gynecology” comes from the Greek γυνή (gyne), “woman,” and -logia, “study.” Pediatric gynecology is the medical specialty dealing with the medical and surgical abnormalities of the vulva, vagina, uterus, and ovaries of infants, children, and adolescents. This includes a number of pediatric gynecologic conditions that include both benign and malignant conditions. Disorders of the breast, disorders of sexual development, and precocious puberty are also included. The specialty of pediatric gynecology is evolving rapidly and has witnessed several advancements during the last 20 years including minimal invasive surgery. This book is written in a simple and easy-to-read way. It covers most areas in the field of pediatric gynecology with an emphasis on the most important areas relevant to the patient’s presentation, diagnosis, and management.
