The collaborative economy is, quite possibly, one of the most significant driving forces shaping the future of tourism. Described as a disruptive innovation that is contributing to the de/restructuring of economic and social systems, its ramifications extend in all directions, and its impacts on and consequences for tourism are enormous. As a consequence, explorations of the collaborative economy and its intersections with tourism require a multidisciplinary and multi-focal approach, and it requires us to move fluidly across different disciplinary lenses, frameworks and concepts.
