Foreword

A request by colleagues to write a foreword to their book is always a compliment and honor. Forewords are often requested by authors who are not well-known but this is certainly not the case for this book as Drs. Andrew Zbar and Steven Wexner are skilled and accomplished authors in their own right and are eminently qualified to edit a book of this nature. The task therefore falls on describing the merits of the contents of the book and perhaps highlighting some of its most prominent attributes. In this Specialist Surgery Series, Drs. Zbar and Wexner set out to address some of the most difficult and controversial problems as well as new areas of development facing practitioners of colorectal surgery. They selected contributors who are expert in the discipline of colorectal surgery and whom they believed would discuss these subjects with up-to-date information relevant to the practicing surgeon.
