Abstract The unified management of land space occupied by natural resources requires three-dimensional (3D) and dynamic cadastral management systems (CMSs). The topological model is one of the most important parts of CMS data. In 3D and dynamic CMSs, topological models should be constructed for 0D–4D multidimensional cadastral objects. The existing method of constructing topological models involving 4D cadastral objects is only at the conceptual level. In this study, we propose a method to construct topological models of multidimensional cadastral objects that support both spatial and spatiotemporal objects. This method represents cadastral objects as generalized maps, which represent topological relationships independent of cadastral objects of specific dimensions. Therefore, this method can construct multidimensional cadastral objects using unified logic. In this method, 2D cadastral data footprints are converted into generalized maps, which support the unified management of 2D, 3D, and 4D cadaster data. We used five data sets of different sizes to test the method. The results demonstrate that this method can construct topological models for 3D and dynamic CMSs efficiently. Introduction In the past 20 years, the level of land management in China has greatly improved, owing, in part, to the establishment and use of cadastral management systems (CMSs), such as the Zhejiang Urban CMSs (Zuland) (Liu et al. 2006). Most existing systems are based on 2D cadastral data. With the development of urbanization in China, the management and protection of natural resources has received high attention from the government. In 2018, the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People’s Republic of China (MNRPRC) was established. The MNRPRC integrates parts or all responsibilities of the Ministry of Land and Resources, the Ministry of Housing Responsible Editor: Biswajeet Pradhan * Yuan Ding [email protected] 1

and Urban-Rural Development, the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Agriculture, and other administrative departments of natural resources. This means that all kinds of natural resources are managed uniformly by the MNRPRC. Natural resources are attached to or associated with the land; hence, land management requires the consideration many natural resources. This necessitates higher requirements for cadastral management systems. To distinguish the threedimensional (3D) space occupied by various kinds of natural resources a
