Treatment failure: case report In a study of patients with lupus nephritis involving evaluation of kidney samples to investigate the presence of ectopic lymphoid structures, a patient [age and sex not stated] was described, who exhibited treatment failure during treatment with cyclophosphamide and mycophenolate for lupus nephritis (LN). The patient, who had a history of systemic lupus erythematosus, was diagnosed with LN. Subsequent evaluation of kidney sample showed presence of ectopic lymphoid structures. The patient had been receiving treatment with mycophenolate [mycofenolate] and cyclophosphamide [dosages and routes not stated] for LN. However, the patient exhibited treatment failure. Therefore, the patient was switched to rituximab resulting in good response and complete remission of LN. Pacucci VA, et al. Tubulo-interstitial infiltrates in lupus nephritis.
