DEDICATION

Andr´ as Bezdek was born on December 30, 1956 in Budapest, Hungary. His mathematical talent earned him recognition and prizes during his formative years. After graduating from E¨ otv¨ os University, he began his academic career at the Mathematical Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, later named the R´enyi Institute, after its founder. After some years he seized the opportunity offered to a group of young Hungarian mathematicians by Ohio State University and enrolled as a graduate student there. He received his PhD degree under the guidance of Hans Zassenhaus. He became one of the first Hungarian mathematicians of his generation not only to be formally educated but also to hold academic appointments both in Hungary and the United States. He is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the R´enyi Institute in Budapest and a Scharnagel Professor at Auburn University. The fiftieth birthday of this highly respected colleague, cherished friend and renowned expert in Discrete Geometry and Convexity was celebrated at the Intuitive Geometry meetings held in Banff and Calgary in September 2007. This issue commemorates these meetings, and it is with great pleasure that we dedicate it to him. T. Bisztriczky, G. Fejes T´oth, F. Fodor, W. Kuperberg
