In v i e w of the i m p a c t t h a t t h e s e r e s u l t s c o u l d have on f u t u r e r e s e a r c h i n u n d e r s t a n d i n g t h e d u c t i l e b r i t t l e t r a n s i t i o n in i r o n b a s e a l l o y s , t h i s c o m m u n i c a tion r e p o r t s d a t a w h i c h a r e c o n t r a r y t o the a b o v e o b servations. L e s l i e a n d S o b e r2 h a v e s h o w n that an a d d i t i o n of 0.15 pct T i t o i r o n c o m b i n e s w i t h t h e i n t e r s t i t i a l s a n d the m a t e r i a l b e h a v e s a s e s s e n t i a l l y a n " i n t e r s t i t i a l f r e e " i r o n . The two " i n t e r s t i t i a l f r e e " a l l o y s s t u d i e d in the p r e s e n t w o r k , n a m e l y i r o n a n d F e - N i , h a d t h e following compositions:
