The activation volumes have been measured by using the technique of repeated relaxations which allows for the measurement of the effective activation volume Veff. This technique has been described in detail elsewhere [8]. It takes into account the strain hardening and the variation of the mobile dislocation density. In the present experiments, series of six relaxations have been performed, each relaxation having a duration of 30s. The deformed specimens were examined using an optical microscope and a Philips FEG XL 30 scanning electron microscope (SEM) operated at 5-15kV. Dislocation cores were oberved using a Philips CM 20 transmission electron microscope (TEM).
