iron ore has already been described] 1"2}The ore consists principally of goethite, with minor hematite, maghemite, siderite, kaolinite, and quartz. Although it is Nigeria's largest known iron ore deposit (estimated at over one billion tons), its utilization is hampered by its poor response to established industrial beneficiation techniques. Previous investigations employing froth flotation, magnetic separation, gravity concentration, and electrostatic separation techniques were not successful in yielding acceptable concentrate grades and recoveries because of the fine-grained texture of the oolitic iron-stone.
