Efficient English Learning Scheme Based on PowerPoint Software Lin Li

Abstract Modern high-tech products are being more widely used in College English teaching, PowerPoint presentation software being one representative of them. So while English teachers are using multimedia tools to design courseware to make presentations in teaching, is it practicable to enable students to make their own work by using presentation software such as PPT to finish their traditional English exercises in a completely new combination of oral English presentations and computer presentations? Practice has proved that in the process of using presentation software, students’ enthusiasm and motivation of learning English was greatly aroused as the real participants and creators in the learning process. In this paper, the supporting role of presentation software in English learning is described in detail from the four aspects of language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Introduction

Murphy-Judy once said: “. . . the readers whom foreign language education produces now. . . should not be trained in defunct literacy practices, but rather should be prepared to function in this new world. . . Literacy, today, is increasingly electronic and telecommunicational.” [1] College English teaching, after a long journey, finally entered the computer multimedia and network era [2]. However, in both teachers’ using multimedia software for classroom teaching and students’ using software for human-computer dialog interaction, there is still a

weakness: while the multimedia coursewares designed beforehand take control of the teaching activities, students still fail to be the centre of learning with passive acceptance or a small amount of participation [3]. Therefore, how to use existing high-tech tools and resources to organize more efficient language learning activities has become English teachers’ major concern [4].

New Use of Presentation Software as PowerPoint

Among all demonstration software used in English teaching, PowerPoint released by Microsoft is now one of the most commonly used. It is intelligent software for editing and producing presentation files with text, graphics, image editing, slide production and network collaborative editing features. It is flexible and userfriendly which requires no complex computer skills, but just simple operations such as text input, graphics insertion, etc., then you can create and edit electronic version of the slides and presentations [5]. Although the original intention of developing this software is for commercial usage, but its
