Plasma technology is often referred to as one of the critical technologies of the twenty-first century. In the developed countries such as the USA and Japan, intensive scientific effort and large funding are being spent on research to develop plasma technologies that are useful for industry. In recent years, newly developed nations such as Korea, China (including Taiwan), and Singapore have also joined the race in the quest to be at the frontiers in this area of technology development. The effect of such efforts on the national economy of these nations is obvious. This monograph covers some fundamental aspects of plasma technology which the authors believe are important to help researchers who intend to start work in plasma technology development. These include basic properties of plasma, methods of plasma generation, and basic plasma diagnostic techniques.
