Angioedema in an elderly patient: case report A 79-year-old man, who had a history of hypertension, dyslipidaemia, diabetes mellitus type II, and arrhythmia, received enalapril [route and dosage not stated] following pacemaker implantation. About 4 hours later, he presented with progressive facial and lingual tumefaction without evident respiratory compromise. He was given methylprednisolone, but his symptoms did not improve. Angioedema secondary to enalapril was suspected and he was administered icatibant; his symptoms partially improved. Forty-eight hours after symptom onset, he was found to be asymptomatic. Author comment: "We report a case with clinical suspicion of angioedema for bradikinin secondary to ACE inhibitor, in which remission was achieved after icatibant administration without observing sideeffects that could prevent its further administration in case of clinical need."
