Abstract This study investigates how the green business activities can be affected by awareness of green supply chain management (SCM) and existing cost reduction behaviors. To this end, this study conducts an empirical research of small and medium-sized enterprises based on a questionnaire survey method. This study shows green business practices are affected by types of industry, but not by the awareness of green SCM and current cost reduction activities. Keywords Green SCM mental awareness

1 Introduction As global warming has made the public aware of problems such as climate change, peak-oil, high volume of greenhouse gas emissions, loss of biodiversity, potable water pollution, growing landfill areas, and population pressure, firms also consider green management as their business strategies [1]. returns from launching green projects like positive cash flow, reduced energy, material, and operating costs can make or break a company today [2]. Today almost all companies face the challenges to get the balance between their activities and the environment [3]. Although market becomes highly competitive in global environment, yet is a market which draws much attention to the aspects of environmental protection. Consequently, companies face the need to change the philosophy of their actions [3]. Thus, recently firms including small medium sized firms consider green SCM as a tool to cope with rapid changeable business environment. The term ‘supply chain’ describes the network of suppliers, distributors and consumers [4]. With increased awareness to corporate responsibility and the requirement to meet the terms with environmental policy, green supply chain management (GSCM) is becoming increasingly important. Companies that have adopted GSCM practices with a focus on distribution activities have successfully improved their business and environmental performance on many levels. The major four activities of the green supply chain management are green purchasing, green manufacturing, green marketing and reverse logistics [5]. Activities of ‘‘green’’ supply chain can be addressed to the four areas found in the traditional supply chain, such as upper and lower flows, and the activities occurring within the organization and logistics processes [6].
