This project started with an interest in the debate around the European Union (EU) referendum debate, so I suppose I should thank David Cameron for ensuring we live in ‘interesting times,’ but I won’t. My initial thoughts on fact-checking journalism were exercised at Stuart Price’s Disruptive Events symposium at De Montfort University in December 2016, and thereafter at various other excellent events including Mark Wheeler and Petros Iosifidis’ Trump, Brexit and Corbyn: Social Media, Authenticity and Post-Truth (City University, May 2018) and Cumberland Lodge’s conference, The Politics of (Post) Truth (December 2018).
