Dear reader, The high standard of living that we enjoy depends entirely on the quality and availability of natural resources. Driven by global population growth and increasing economic performance, mineral raw materials and fossil fuels are being extracted in ever greater quantities. The extraction of these resources has profound environmental impacts, such as the destruction of ecosystems and habitats as well as air, water and soil pollution. For this reason, we pursue various measures for more efficient resource use and management, with the aim of keeping the negative effects of resource use within reasonable bounds.
