The Corporation Participation Committee of the Materials Research Society is made up primarily of scientists from the laboratories of private corporations. Its principal function is enlisting the financial support of institutions involved in materials research and applications for the Society's expanding range of meetings, activities, and services. Broadening the Base "We work both with established Corporate Affiliates and with concerns that haven't previously supported the MRS in order to broaden our base of Affiliates," Draper explains. "For example, one of our newest Affiliates is Alcoa. Dr. Noel Jarrett, Technical Director of the Alcoa Technical Center, was attending his first MRS meeting this past November in Boston. He was much impressed with the size, scope, and quality of the meeting. His only complaint was, 'Where have you guys been hiding?' Through his efforts and those of the Corporate Participation Committee, Alcoa became a Corporate Affiliate." Benefits of Support Another crucial responsibility of the Corporate Participation Committee is making sure Affiliates receive the benefits to which they are entitled. There are a number of these, and the list is growing. Among the benefits: • Literature displays at MRS meetings without charge • Announcements of employment opportunities in the MRS BULLETIN at no charge • Complimentary subscriptions to the BULLETIN and the MRS-affiliated letters journal, Materials Letters • Assistance with placement efforts at MRS meetings

• Recognition of support in Society publications • Copies of volumes in the MRS PROCEEDINGS series at meeting-participant prices • Advance notice of MRS meeting programs and events • Advance consultation on topical program content • Meetings with MRS officers on topics of mutual concern • Discounts on the cost of exhibition in the new Equipment Show at the Annual Meeting Your Help is Welcome "The Society's membership can be very helpful to the Committee in identifying potential Affiliates," Draper stresses. "Members are invited to get in touch with Bill Katz or myself, or with any member of the Committee, with suggestions of firms or laboratories that might be interested in working with us for the advancement of materials science and applications. Supply us with the name of the appropriate contact and we'll do the rest!" Membership The members of the Committee are:
