In January 2015 “Je suis Charlie – I am Charlie” became the catchphrase for freedom of speech after eleven reporters and a police officer were killed in a terrorist attack on the office of Charlie Hebdo magazine. Over a million people participated in the march in Paris after the attack. Side by side walked heads of states even from places where freedom of speech is merely a utopia, constantly compromised. As the demonstrations become yesterday’s news, what is to become of freedom of speech? In the future, how possible will it be for people to express themselves and access the accuracy of information? How do we make out our conception of the world in this abundance of information? Freedom of speech usually refers to the right of every person to not only express but also to receive information without interference. In this way freedom of speech becomes a foundation for constructing a free society and a common welfare.
