Preface

Despite the Quaternary beds of Uruguay have an important geographical expression and economical significance, efforts to increase knowledge about them are far from exhaustive, implying that many more studies must be carried out. The benefit in having none, or slightly modified beds preserving most of the features, is the opposite of the short interval of geological time to be analyzed. Multidisciplinary studies are needed, integrating such disciplines as geology, paleontology, and geomorphology among others, in order to properly interpret the biotic and landscape evolution during the Pleistocene and Holocene. This present contribution provides an updated review and criticism of the progress on the continental, transitional, and marine Quaternary deposits of Uruguay, mainly b
