Experimental Hematology Today is divided into six sections which are related to the presentations given at the Egan Lorenz Memorial Symposia presented as part of the Fifth Annual Meeting of the International Society for Experimental Hematology held in Washington, D.C. in 1976. The first division deals with papers from Symposium I chaired by Dr. Dirk W. van Bekkum, Rijswijk, Netherlands. Its topic is "Characterization of the Multipotential Stem Cell (CFU-s)," and represents a report of the most recent attempts of separation and description of the multipotential hematopoietic stem cell. The papers presented in Symposium II entitled "Humoral and Cellular Control Agents" and chaired by Dr. Eugene P. Cronkite, Brookhaven, New York, discuss the latest findings of the influence of specific factors on hematopoietic cell production. The third division is comprised of presentations from Symposium III entitled "Physiology of Committed Stem Cells (CFU-e and CFU-m)." It was chaired by Dr. James E. Till, Toronto, Canada. The papers of this symposium discuss the function of the erythrocytic and megakaryocytic committed stem cells. The papers from Symposium IV entitled "Physiology of Committed Stem Cells (CFU-c)," chaired by Dr. Siegmund J. Baum, Bethesda, Maryland, are presented in the fourth division. This division deals with the latest research findings of the functional interrelationship of the leukocytic committed stem cells.
