In Iran, climate change combined with low adaptation capacity and poor resource management strikes with unparalleled force on ecosystems as well as human livelihoods. This book focuses on central Iran and zooms into the Roodasht region, a region in the lower reaches of the Zayandeh Rud river, suffering from increasing water scarcity and, with it, desertification, environmental degradation, loss of livelihood, social tensions, and emigration. The Roodasht region stands out as an example for many arid regions in the world where the rural population has to cope with challenges caused by internal and external factors. The individual chapters of this edited volume present different approaches of collecting and combining relevant information about the specific problems—qualitative and quantitative research methods like interviews, participatory methods, ground surveys, field tests, and satellite monitoring—and di
