Foreword
As a former Naval Flight Surgeon, trained in the US Navy, and having served in the French Naval Aviation, I faced many challenges with my patients worldwide in the air, at sea, in remote and hostile environments, in emergency departments, then later on expedition cruise ships and oil and gas operations. Making the right decision with limited information and resources in a complex environment summarizes in- flight medical practice. Earlier in my career, I would have indeed benefitted greatly in these environments from this Reference Book that Drs. Jose V. Nable and William Brady are offering to the medical community. Having worked and traveled across the globe, I had my share of in-flight emergencies as a flight surgeon in Search and Rescue Missions, but also as a passenger responding to such events on commercial aircraft.
