Current reforms of political structure and culture and media policies, alongside the changes in global power relations, have made it necessary for the Chinese government to carry out a systematic research into the relationship between communication strategies and construction of national image. This also translates into a growing demand for the development of communication strategies, which is a necessary precondition for the construction of China’s national image, allowing China to hold a stronger position in the international relations. In this sense, perhaps the most striking aspect of the change has been the government’s devotion to media convergences—one essential part of the mainstream news media reform amid the development of information and communication technologies. All these trends that I have observed drove me to open up the vista, to write this book—International Communication Strategies of Chinese Radio and TV Networks.
