Three main aims In an accompanying editorial, Secretary of State for International Development, London, UK, Douglas Alexander notes that the IHP is "not another funding mechanism to add to the myriad already available".2 Mr Alexander says that the IHP will do three things: • provide better coordination among donors • focus on improving health systems as a whole • develop and support countries’ own health plans. He also points out that the initiative "aims to bring together the efforts of all", and to "produce more than the sum of its parts".

Welcomed and supported by WHO The WHO has released a statement asserting that "we, as international health partners committed to improving health and development outcomes in the world, welcome and fully support" the IHP’s mission to strengthen health systems, and "congratulate those involved for setting it in motion".3 1.
