Kyoto Venue Slated for 18th International Symposium on Nuclear Waste Management The 18th International Symposium on the Scientific Basis for Nuclear Waste Management will be held in Kyoto, Japan, October 23-27,1994. The objective of the symposium is to provide an interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of scientific research relevant to all levels and types of radioactive wastes and their management. The symposium will consist of invited talks, contributed presentations and posters. The symposium is being sponsored by the Materials Research Society, Atomic Energy Society of Japan, Central Research Institute of Electric Power Ind., Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute, and Power Reactor & Nuclear Fuel Development Corporation with the cooperation of IUMRS and nine additional scientific and engineering societies in Japan. Papers are solicited in the following areas: Waste Forms; Engineered Barriers; Actinide Chemistry; Radionuclide Transport/Retardation; Waste Interaction with Host Rock; TRU Waste Material Issues; Microbial Effects; Radiation Effects; Gas Generation and Release; Natural Analogues; Site Characterization; and Performance Analysis/Safety Assessment. The abstract deadline is April 10,1994.
