Levodopa/carbidopa Lack of efficacy in Parkinson’s disease: case report
A 64-year-old man exhibited lack of efficacy during treatment with levodopa/carbidopa for Parkinson’s disease [route and dosage not stated]. The man, who had essential tremor, presented with debilitating bilateral upper extremity action tremor. One year prior to the current presentation, he had developed left lower extremity resting tremor. He had received propranolol, which failed to show effect. Moreover, he had received primidone, which was not tolerated. Following examinations, a diagnosis of essential tremor and Parkinson’s disease was made. Subsequently, he received low-dose levodopa/carbidopa [carbidopa-levodopa]; however, benefit was not obtained. The man’s levodopa/carbidopa treatment was discontinued. In view of the refractory tremor, he was referred for deep brain stimulation. Consequently, an improvement was noted. Wadhwa A, et al.
