Individuals over 65 represent the fasted growing portion of the population in the United States, consume the highest proportion of the country’s healthcare dollars, and often live in a long-term care facility for the latter portion of their lives. The care in longterm care facilities is provided for by primary care physicians who may or may not be board certified in geriatrics and who more likely than not have never had a directed learning experience in long-term care.
