Preface

This volume is dedicated to the 90th birthday of Prof. Norman H. March. Already in the title, Many-body Approaches at Different Scales, the book endeavours to epitomize Prof. March’s very broad range of interests, which spans both chemistry and physics, with an emphasis on condensed matter and many-body theory. The majority of the contributions to this book come from Norman’s closest collaborators and friends around the world. Norman was born in 1927. He obtained the B.Sc. in Physics (1st Class) and the Ph.D. from London University, UK (MA Oxford). He conducted research for the Ph.D. degree directly under the supervision of Prof. Charles A. Coulson. He became Professor of Physics at the University of Sheffield in 1961 and Professor of Theoretical
