Various toxicities: 43 case reports In a study of 96 patients from a hospital in Iran (September to December 2017), of which, 43 patients (40 male and 3 female, aged 16–33 years) were described, who developed acute tramadol poisoning or seizures following abuse or overdose with tramadol. Of which, 3 patients developed acute tramadol poisoning following interaction between tramadol and methadone [not all routes, dosages and indications stated; time to reactions onsets and outcomes not stated]. All patients were receiving oral tramadol at a dose of 200–8000mg. Of which, 39 patients had received an overdose of tramadol, while 25 patients had been abusing tramadol for more than one month before the presentation. Three patients also received methadone. Subsequently, all patients developed acute tramadol poisoning, which led to hospitalisation. Out of these 43 patients, 40 patients developed seizures due to acute tramadol poisoning. Laboratory investigations confirmed tramadol abuse, tramadol overdose or drug interaction between tramadol and methadone as a cause for acute tramadol poisoning. Ahmadimanesh M, et al.
