Abstract An able-bodied, due to the exposure of the rocks in the northeast part of the boat path, the construction of Thengapattanam port encountered a major problem of dredging. In Thengapattanam, 2D electrical resistivity imaging (ERI) method and geotechnical soil texture investigation was carried out during underwater rock exposure to alleviate the need for continued dredging operations. The 2D ERI Marine Resistivity of special carbon floating electrodes with Wenner configuration technique used in this study. Res2DINV software was used to interpret the collected resistivity data to develop the apparent resistivity and pseudo-profile of exposed rock and soil in underwater. The Magneto Telluric Resistivity technique is used to locate the underground rock features of the port rock formation in deep mapping. The 2D picture shows the resistivity range of the three layers, such as top soil (0.06–0.9 X m soil contains clay), 1–1.5 X m sandy loam and 1.5–6 X m weathered gneiss, indicating subsurface geological conditions in the area. The support for texture analysis

1 Introduction The Indian government suggested that place Thengapattanam to build a port for fishing. The main income in this area comes from fishing. The study area is located in the Kanniyakumari district of southern India, at 8°140 28.96200 N and 8°140 22.9000 N, and 77°100 4.6700 E and 77°100 4.0100 E (Fig. 1). Ramanibai and Reji (2012) conducted study in earlier the summer and observed that the lower part of the river water and estuary water was contaminated by the invasion of domestic sewage and salt water. The depth of the soil core sample is about 1–3 feet deep below the seabed. Port infrastructure construction is an important cause of increasing the depth of the groundwater level in port construction, it is very useful study for shipping without touching the underlying strata or rocks. Current construction work has encountered major
