Abstract Data Centers are the backbone of any industry that provides a specialized environment to safeguard the company’s valuable equipment and intellectual property. The successful operation of company’s Data Center is typically shared among multiple departments and personnel. But, the involvement of multiple personal and departments make its configuration complex. In such situations, reliability of data center become a necessary factor. But, the traditional theory of reliability is based on the Bernoulli trials, i.e., either operative or failure. But this situation is unrealistic in case of complex systems like data center. To rectify this problem, here a mathematical model has been developed using the concept of fuzzy reliability. All the failure and repair rates are exponential distributed along with coverage factor. Chapman-Kolmogorov differential equations have been developed for the fuzzy system using Markov birth–death process. A new methodology Runge–Kutta method of order four has been used to solve Chapman-Kolmogorov differential equations using MATLAB (Ode 45 function). 1 Introduction With the prompt enlargement and advance application of network information technology in all fields like, management, industrial, medical and business, the age of big data has been snitched. For the handling of this data safely a central facility is required to store and process the information of any company safely. This central facility is termed as data center. It is a carrier of mass data and transmission which becomes a communication hub. These data centers provide a specialized environment to safeguard the company’s valuable equipment and intellectual property. The business transactions, website hosting, process and storage of the intellectual property, maintain the financial recording and routing the emails are the key task performed by the devices of data center. Due to its wide applicability, it is termed as the brain of the company. On the other hand, safety of the data center is the primary responsibility of any company’s administration so that it works with full efficiency. The efficiency of data center can be measured with various characteristics of system effectiveness. Reliability and availability are the key characteristics of any system’s effectiveness. The performance of the system depends on its availability and reliability. Reliability is the probability that system can perform its intended function under stated environmental conditions without any failure while availability is the
