Modeling Density-Driven Flow in Porous Media Principles, Numerics, S
Modeling of flow and transport in groundwater has become an important focus of scientific research in recent years. Most contributions to this subject deal with flow situations, where density and viscosity changes in the fluid are neglected. This restrict

This book would not have come into existence without the international HYDROCOIN project in which I had the pleasure being involved and it is a late result of discussions on the 'brine' test cases. The German team within HYDROCOIN was directed by Prof. Gerhard Memmert. Later I had the chance to extend my experience in a research project on seawater intrusion in the Nile delta aquifer led by Prof. Uwe Troger within the 'Sonderforschungsbereich 69' (Geosciences in arid and semiarid climates). Further work on the subject especially on geothermal problems was enabled by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Education of Japan during a one year research stay at the Beppu Geophysical Research Institute of Kyoto University where I got the opportunity to cooperate closely with Prof. Yuki Yusa. Two years of funding by the 'Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft' (DFG) gave the final impulse for writing. At that stage support came from Prof. Gerd Holtorffand Prof. Wolfgang Kinzelbach, later from Prof. Asaf Pe
