Nowadays, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is one of the most frequent lifestyle diseases. Diagnosis and treatment of this disease represents a substantial challenge and needs a multidisciplinary approach. Edited by two outstanding GERD specialists—Sebastian F. of General Surgery, Medical University of Vienna, Austria, and Martin Riegler, Reflux & Health Care, Vienna, Austria—together with other distinguished and globally known coauthors, a clear and comprehensive survey of the current state of multidisciplinary management of gastroesophageal reflux disease is given. In this book, all aspects of diagnosis and management of GERD including endoscopy, gastroenterology, radiology, pulmonology, surgery, palliation, and interventional medicine are presented and discussed at a high level. Furthermore anatomical, physiological, histopathological, and pathophysiological characteristics of the esophagus are demonstrated in an impressive way. In 217 pages, multi- and interdisciplinary approaches to GERD and Barretts’s esophagus (BE) are covered, including the latest advances in the understanding of these diseases and reflection on the latest diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Due to the profound expertise of the authors and a highly accurate search of the literature, all currently known aspects of GERD and BE are adequately addressed and guarantee the high quality of the content. Especially the presentation of novel tools for therapy of GERD and BE demonstrates the wide spectrum of instruments for the treatment of these diseases and opens the door to an individually tailored therapy. Chapter one deals with the pathophysiology of lower esophageal sphincter damage and proposes a new pathologic test of lower esophageal sphincter damage. Chapter two comprises detailed information on esophageal function testing for GERD. The important sections three and four of this book deal with endoscopy and endoscopic ablative therapies in GERD and BE. Endoscopic mucosal resection, endoscopic submucosal dissection, radiofrequency ablation, and cryoballoon ablation are described. Diagrams and illustrations help to make the diverse procedures readily understandable. All recent trials
