Natalizumab Type III allergic reaction: case report A 35-year-old woman, with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis not responding to interferon β-1b, began treatment with natalizumab [dosage not stated]. Ten days after receiving her second infusion she developed whole-body rash and itching. Her primary care physician suspected an allergic reaction and treated her with dimetindene for 5 days. However natalizumab was not suspected and infusions continued. She received a third and fourth infusion with symptoms recurring 10 days later; the rash and itching were treated as before. After the third occurrence she reported her symptoms to those administering her natalizumab. Natalizumab was discontinued and her serum analysed, revealing anti-natalizumab antibodies [outcome not stated]. Leussink VI, et al. Type III systemic allergic reaction to natalizumab.
