Itching, dermatitis medicamentosa and diarrhoea: 4 case reports In a study evaluating the efficacy and safety of nemonoxacin in 337 patients aged 34–61 years with community-acquired pneumonia, 4 adult women [exact ages not stated] were described, who developed itching, dermatitis medicamentosa or diarrhoea during treatment with nemonoxacin for community-acquired pneumonia. The women, who had community-acquired pneumonia, were initiated on oral nemonoxacin 500mg [frequencies not stated]. However, during treatment, three women experienced skin-related side effects. One woman developed itching on her neck without rash, whereas the two women developed dermatitis medicamentosa on day 10 and 12 following treatment initiation with symptoms of systemic rashes and mild pruritus; the two women who developed dermatitis medicamentosa had a history of allergy to various antibiotics. The fourth woman developed intolerable diarrhoea requiring hospitalisation [not all durations of treatments to reaction onsets stated]. The woman who developed itching, experienced resolution of symptoms after treatment completion. The two women with dermatitis medicamentosa were treated symptomatically with improvement of symptoms and the woman with diarrhoea required alteration of nemonoxacin treatment. Zhao B, et al.
