Abstract Interventional techniques for percutaneous treatment of structural heart disease have become an important option for patients ineligible for conventional cardiovascular surgery. Three-dimensional echocardiography plays an essential role not only for patient selection but also for periinterventional guidance. This review aims to describe novel approaches for the application of three-dimensional echocardiography during transcatheter interventions in the context of the current literature and current recommendations. Introduction The growing need for less invasive therapies of cardiac disease creates the necessity for improved imaging guidance. Percutaneous interventions are traditionally performed in the catheter laboratory under fluoroscopic guidance. In coronary interventions, fluoroscopy alone seems to be sufficient for adequate guidance of the procedure. In the past decade, interventional cardiology has experienced a shift to a more complex spectrum of interventions in structural heart disease, such as interventional heart valve treatment and interventional occlusion of the persistent foramen ovale, atrial and ventricular septal defects, the left atrial appendage, and paravalvular leakages. In contrast to coronary interventions where fluoroscopy remains the dominant imaging modality, the evaluation and treatment of structural heart disease requires continuous soft-tissue imaging J.
