Abstract. Security is a fundamental aspect of the next generation mobile network. In this paper, features of the 5G network, such as IoT and D2D, are described along with the proposal of a new layered network model, which enables independence on multiple radio access technologies (RATs). Additionally, security requirements on the 5G network are stated to facilitate security examination. Security issues arising from new technologies to be used in the 5G network, for example, physical layer security, are investigated in the core section of the paper. Keywords: 5G network

Introduction
Mobile networks have dramatically changed our lives over the last few decades. From analogue voice networks in the 1st generation, through their digitalization in 2G and improvements on data access in 3G, and technologies currently being deployed in 4G, they have achieved capabilities which were unforeseeable a few decades ago. However, the development does not stop here. There were 3.6 billion unique mobile subscribers at the end of 2014, with 7.1 billion global SIM connections and 243 million machine-to-machine (M2M) connections. Half of the world’s population has a mobile subscription now, and an additional one billion subscribers are predicted by 2020. Moreover, users still require the emergence of new services and new applications of M2M connections. The concept of the 5G network is promising to satisfy the growing needs of mobile wireless communication. Along with increasing data rate, number of users, reliability and coverage of the mobile network, security is a matter of key importance that requires careful consideration. As with the upcoming spread of the Internet of Things (IoT) that the 5G network is going to propagate to almost all aspects of our lives, security will become even more crucial than it is now. Many new technologies are emerging to be deployed in the 5G network and improve its performance. Their security issues should be examined so that appropriate countermeasures can be taken before new technologies are deployed into live operation. Novel approaches for security enhancement also have been proposed. In particular, physical layer security seems to offer reasonable solutions for many security requirements. It is important to recognize its possible risks and point out topics for further research. c Springer Science+Business Media Singapore 2016 K. Li et al. Our Contribution
– We propose a new layered network model of the 5G network taking the collaborative multiple radio access technologies (RATs) into consideration from the security point of view (see Sect. 2). This section also summarizes basic features and technologies of the upcoming 5G network. – We formulate security requirements on the 5G network as
